Vehicular Network is a type of mobile ad-hoc network to provide communication among vehicles. Vehicular network is a technology which uses moving vehicle as node to create network. Some characteristics of vehicular network are similar to mobile ad-hoc network. VANET implement a system called Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) by utilize various types of vehicle communication such as Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) wireless communication. Strong routing paths are discovered for the transmission of data and there is no possibility to break path before an end transmission. It is achieved by changing a Network topology and wireless communication links are inherently unstable due to high mobility.

Vehicular Networks Omnet++ Objective:

  • Locating a vehicle.

  • Node itself acts as server and client.

  • Improve traffic safety and comfort driving.

  • Various conditions such as climate and traffic information.

VANET Network in Omnet++ requires two types of simulator they are given as mobility generator and network simulator. Both simulators are independent and they are separate simulators.

Vehicular Networks Omnet++ function:

  • Any node can communicate.

  • Each Vehicle equipped with WIFI/WIMAX and acts node.

  • Vehicle information is directly gathered by WAPs.

  • Every Vehicle has unique ID and IP address.

  • Collected information in WAP is connected to server Database.

  • Vehicles are registering their ID to Roadway WAP.

Vehicular Network is classified into two types on mobility function simulation framework. They are given as:

  • Macroscopic.

  • Microscopic.

Macroscopic is defined as the process of monitoring a group of cars mobility in road and not on individual car process.

Microscopic is defined as the process of monitoring each vehicle and behavior of each vehicle. Vehicular Network Omnet++ simulation provides bidirectional interaction among microscopic mobility and network simulator for Omnet++.
